For Moments
This page is an open format documentation resource of an ongoing multidiciplinary collaboration with the global mining community.
‘For Moments’ is a visual exploration of the intial development in collaboration with La Perla Ballroom Community, Antofagasta Chile that explores the movement as a modality of resistance in queer communities situated in large scale extraction mining regions in the Atacama Desert. This work is developed through community enagement and exchange between Lily and the La Perla community, dancing together, playing together, sharing stories and soaking in oceans, building kin through our shared connection to dance, identity and experience. The work looks to the essence of queer experience in extractive societies and seeks to build commons between two lands either side of the pasific, Australia and Chile. Through practice research this work builds a fantasy desert landscpae suspended between two land masses, a dry ocean. a place to be seen, claim commons , and be safe. Together we rebuild the desert through movement in the middle of the worlds we know. Though the coming together, through the exchange, through wet hot sweat, heels, hair and voices we build the world through soft resistance. quietly awakening beneath the city above. softly swaying, dipping under the concrete capital sucubus. Here we are seen for all we are and here we witness the wonder of each other in full view. suspended, falling and floating.
This work culminates in a photo essay to be publish in June 2026 with Sissy Archives QLD and future development of a live performance program in 2027.
